KP Chief Minister Reviews Progress on Major Road Projects. Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, chaired a high-level meeting to review progress on key road sector projects across the province. The focus remained on three major developments: Swat Motorway Phase II, Peshawar–Dera Ismail Khan Motorway, and the Dir Motorway.

Swat Motorway Phase II to Begin Soon

During the briefing, officials updated the chief minister on the current status of Swat Motorway Phase II. He directed concerned departments to start construction without delay, calling it a flagship project of the provincial government.

The chief minister also instructed authorities to remove all technical and administrative hurdles immediately.
Swat Motorway Phase II will span 80 kilometers, running from Chakdara Interchange to Fatehpur. The project includes:

  • Nine interchanges
  • Seven bridges at different points over the Swat River

Peshawar–Dera Ismail Khan Motorway Update

The meeting also reviewed plans for the Peshawar–Dera Ismail Khan Motorway. The chief minister confirmed that the foundation stone will be laid soon.

This motorway will be 365 kilometers long and feature:

  • 19 interchanges
  • Two tunnels

Both the Swat Motorway Phase II and the Peshawar–Dera Ismail Khan Motorway will be completed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

Dir Motorway to Be Funded by Province

For the Dir Motorway, the meeting decided in principle that the project will be built entirely with provincial funds. This decision highlights the government’s commitment to developing infrastructure in less-developed and remote areas.

Focus on Transparency and Regional Development

The chief minister directed departments to complete all legal and administrative requirements quickly so practical work can begin. He emphasized that the government is using available resources transparently and efficiently to promote development and economic growth across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Conclusion

The review meeting shows strong progress on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s major motorway projects, including Swat Motorway Phase II, Peshawar–Dera Ismail Khan Motorway, and Dir Motorway. With clear timelines, funding strategies, and administrative direction, these road projects are set to improve connectivity, boost regional development, and support long-term prosperity in the province.
